Beyond feel-good talk

Stefan Scheurer on no sycophancy (in German, with German subtitles)

This is preventive coaching for personal development, mental fitness and robustness. It is a stand-alone coaching service, not psychotherapeutic treatment of clinical conditions. If it becomes clear during our work that you need therapeutic treatment or further assessment, I will tell you, and we will agree on the next steps outside the coaching setting.

Stance

Stance

The steeper the climb, the more your development depends on grip. And grip comes from friction – with another person and with reality.

Polite nodding is everywhere in professional support today. In management consulting, in coaching, among colleagues – and in AI systems trained to tell us what we want to hear. This phenomenon, sycophancy, means uncritical flattery and avoiding any pushback. It feels comfortable in the moment, but gives you no grip at all. Real change means trading that passive comfort for the productive discomfort of growth: a deliberate, well-dosed mental effort that makes development and resilience possible in the first place.

If you want mental stability and leadership performance that last, keeping coaching and psychotherapy in strictly separate boxes is counterproductive. Rather than artificially splitting work and life, my approach combines the scientifically grounded methods of cognitive behavioural therapy with those of coaching and (psycho-)education.

It’s the scientific substance of cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) that gives real self-management its depth. Through sound (psycho-)education we explore what actually drives how you think and act – the foundation for mental stability and effective (self-)leadership in the spirit of the St. Gallen Management Model.

Psychological substance becomes strategic clarity: coaching that goes beneath the surface and holds up over time.

Principles and stance

Principles you can hold on to

No Sycophancy

Real growth needs constructive friction. You’re not looking for people-pleasing or polite nods – you want straight talk that actually moves you forward.

Evidence, not improvisation

When the stakes are high, half-knowledge won’t cut it. You rely on proven methods from cognitive behavioural therapy: sparring with real depth instead of generic advice.

Discretion and secure data

As a registered psychotherapist, confidentiality is second nature to me – and it applies just as much to coaching. All processes and data handling meet the strict GDPR standards for health data. In this protected space we tackle strategic crises and blind spots with radical candour: the basis for honest friction and real progress.

Unfiltered exchange

No masks, no polish. You value a genuine working relationship on equal terms, where difficult topics get raised head-on.

Evidence-based self-management

As a registered psychotherapist, I use behaviour therapy methods as personal training for your mind. What you get is preventive coaching at the highest level: measurable self-regulation and honest friction.

Embracing complexity

Leadership rarely happens in clear conditions. You don’t want simplistic recipes, but a sparring partner who can hold contradictions, make connections visible and work with you towards sound decisions when the picture is messy.

Online meets offline

We combine digital conversations with the tangible effect of writing by hand. Alongside the online sessions, pen and paper strike an effective balance: handwriting engages deeper areas of the brain involved in processing and focus.

What I work with

Eight building blocks. One concept. No silos.

01

Peak performance when it counts (coaching)

Focus on what matters when decisions need to be made. You sharpen your direction, strengthen your assertiveness and deliver when it counts.

02

Personal training for the mind (CBT)

Mental strength built on the methods of cognitive behavioural therapy. You learn to reframe entrenched thinking patterns, clear mental blocks and stay fully able to act, even under stress.

03

Managing your resources (systemic coaching)

A sustainable way of handling your energy. You understand your role in a complex environment, set clear boundaries and pace yourself so that overload never sets in.

04

Functional activation (sport & exercise)

Body and mind in sync. Targeted physical activity helps you break down stress hormones, build physical resilience and get your energy back.

05

Personalised relaxation (biofeedback)

Relaxation that actually works for you. Using scientific biofeedback methods, you learn to calm your nervous system precisely and tap into deep recovery when you need it.

06

(Psycho-)education

Evidence-based knowledge where psychology meets leadership – from sound burnout prevention to effective delegation. Science-backed input for your mental health and your day-to-day work, without the theoretical baggage.

07

Communication and rhetoric

Without purposeful communication, even the best strategy falls flat. This building block gives you the tools to actively shape systems, teams and change through precise conversation: for difficult discussions, clear positioning and agreements that hold – practical, to the point and free of rhetorical smoke and mirrors.

08

The result: lasting health

Not just functioning, but staying well. The interplay of all methods creates genuine resonance, a deeper sense of meaning and long-term fulfilment – at work and beyond.
